Labor Day
Ever wonder about how Labor Day came to be?
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
You can go read the rest of this at the Department of Labor site about its origins at http://www.dol.gov/opa/aboutdol/laborday.htm
Today is a day of links and referred reading. I may blog later, but unlikely. We are going to shop for a keeper jersey for our oldest kid's soccer team and likely going to eat lunch at Hooter's (the choice of Zoom Zoom) to which Army of Dad almost shed a tear.
Each election year Family Circle has its Cookie Cook-Off among the candidates for First Lady (you know what I mean, if ONLY we could elect first ladies ... wouldn't that be funny to mix and match candidates and wives - sort of a presidential wife swap, hee hee). Anyway, I digress. The winner of this one is obvious to me - like Deanna Troi, I have an affinity for chocolate. So, even if she wasn't my pick for First Lady, I'd still pick her cookie recipe. Laura Bush's Oatmeal-Chocolate Chunk Cookies vs. Teresa Heinz Kerry's Pumpkin Spice Cookies

A Vietnam Vet's poetic tribute to John Kerry; he believes Veteran's Day will come early this year. Nov. 2 to be precise (psst, that is election day in case you didn't know. Veteran's Day is Nov. 11.

A couple of links worth following regarding John Kerry and his waning support. Even college students and union workers in what is often considered union-dominated Democrat-heavy Ohio expressed disillusionment with JF'ingK. The first link is to a newspaper story, the second from The Corner at National Review Online.

Happy Day off everyone. Back to the grind tomorrow. Of course, I'm paying back my next-door neighbor for all the babysitting she has done for me. I will have her three children ALL day in addition to mine. Say a prayer for me that I don't go entirely grey by the end of her school day. She teaches at a private school and our public schools are out for teacher in-service. Mother Mary watch out for me!
