Helping those who help others

I'm adding some links to my favorites along the right hand side of my page, but I wanted to highlight these worthwhile organizations so you can see why they're worth supporting.

The Fallen Patriot Fund of The Mark Cuban Foundation was established in April 2003 to help families of U.S. military personnel who were killed or seriously injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Financial resources are vital to enhancing the sustainability of the family unit who has suffered a loss because their loved one sacrificed him/herself for freedom. Within that group, grant recipients will be selected in accordance with criteria established by The Mark Cuban Foundation. All proceeds will be disbursed.
DALLAS – RaeLynn Rehn, 29, of Broken Arrow, Okla., has been selected as a grant recipient of the Fallen Patriot Fund. Rehn received $12,000 from the Fund to assist with raising her daughter, Megan, 1, after her husband, Army Sergeant First Class Randall Scott Rehn, 36, died in a friendly fire incident near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq on April 3, 2003.
Sergeant First Class Rehn was assigned to C Battery, 3rd Battalion, 13th Field Artillery Regiment (Multiple Launch Rocket System), out of Fort Sill, Okla.
“I was surprised and grateful to hear about this grant. I don’t know what the future is going to hold financially for me to take care of my child and provide for her in the way I would have been if her father was still here. This money helps me know I will be able to cover her expenses and take care of the random things that come up every day,” said Rehn. “The support that the Fallen Patriot Fund has given military families is amazing. It is great to know that it is over a year later and the fund is still remembering and assisting families.”
Donations to the Fallen Patriot Fund are still being accepted and can be made at any of the 4,200 Bank of America banking centers; through the Web site at www.fallenpatriotfund.org, or mailed to the Fallen Patriot Fund, c/o Bank of America Private Bank, TX1-492-19-09, P.O. Box 832409, Dallas, Texas, 75283-2409. Additional information and grant application may be obtained through the Web site.
The Mark Cuban Foundation will match donations to the Fallen Patriot Fund dollar for dollar up to $1 million. Since April 16, 2003, donations have been received from 48 states, Canada and Italy. In addition, the Bank of America Foundation will match employee donations dollar for dollar from gifts of $25 up to $5,000.
Financial resources are vital to enhancing the sustainability of the family unit who has suffered a loss because its loved one sacrificed him/herself for freedom. Within that group, grant recipients will be selected in accordance with criteria established by The Mark Cuban Foundation. All proceeds will be disbursed.

The Wounded Warrior Project seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere around the world. The organization helps the military in the following ways:

The Wounded Warrior Project seeks to give a voice to a new generation of veterans and to fill the need for a coordinated, united effort to aid them in readjusting to civilian life.

The Wounded Warrior Project is dedicated to serving the needs of the modern veteran. Today, skilled representatives are a necessity to assist you in obtaining the benefits you earned and deserve. Our Service Officers are the best and the brightest, a unique group of highly trained veterans advocates who bring a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of claims representation.

We're fighting to ensure politicians and businesses once again put veterans first: the Wounded Warrior Project is committed to seeing that elected officials keep their promises to veterans. Whether the issue is concurrent receipt legislation, adequate healthcare at VA Medical facilities, or the shortage of Long Term Care facilities for our aging heroes, you can be confident that the Wounded Warrior Project will go to the wall and fight these battles with you and for you.

Veterans deserve the highest consideration when applying for a job in the country that remains free because of their sacrifices. The Wounded Warrior Project works closely with veterans, employers and career agencies to ensure veterans have equal access to employment, training and advancement in their careers.

The mission of Homes for our Troops is to build specially adapted homes for severely disabled soldiers and their families. As a volunteer staff, the organization is working to raise money to build specially adapted homes for soldiers who become disabled. Currently they are working to put the first of what they hope to be many projects together for severely wounded soldiers. Sgt. Peter Damon, a soldier from Brockton, Mass., who was injured in Iraq, and lost both of his arms has joined the group to help offer help to other soldiers across America. This guy was featured in Farenheit 9/11 without his consent. He appears in Michael Moore Hates America to give his REAL opinion on the war.

These are worthwhile organizations. I highly encourage you to consider them amongst your holiday donations.
