It is always something

I've been dealing with this little knot on my right wrist for some time, but it didn't hurt for a while, so I wasn't worried about it. I went to the general practitioner when I noticed it last year to make sure it wasn't something really bad. He told me it was a ganglion cyst. So, I didn't worry too much about it. But, lately it has gotten bigger and started hurting.

So, I went to the doctor this morning. We did x-rays to rule out anything worse, but because of its location and size, we're going to surgically remove it. It will be outpatient, but they'll do it at the hospital and knock me out, if I understood correctly.

As the doctor is telling me about the cyst and surgery he mentions that because it is on my wrist and located right above an artery, there is an off chance that the cyst could be wrapped around the artery. If that is the case, then they have to bi-sect the artery. What? Hello? This just totally freaked me out. It is unlikely, he said, but there is that chance. Great. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I will do some pre-op tests on the 21st and then we'll do the outpatient surgery on Friday Oct. 29. I can't wait. *note the sarcasm* I will have a splint on my wrist and then after a few days, a cast will be put on. It will take about six weeks to fully recover. I don't know if this will effect my blogging too much. I may just be typing really slow like some guy in a sexually explicit chatroom using only my left hand to type. It may make writing for money a little more time consuming, too. Guess I ought to get to work NOW on assignments that I have to work on.

We scheduled surgery for the bone spur on my right foot for Dec. 22. I'll be on crutches for about a week or two and unable to drive for about a week. Yikes. He wouldn't let me do both procedures at the same time because I wouldn't be able to use crutches with my right hand recovering from surgery, too. He told me before I could even ask.

Are you just falling apart? haha! As for the ganglion cyst...I, as you know, had one also recently. It was there for months and months and it just kept getting bigger!!! Of course I have no insurace, so no going to the doctor, but when I had a lot of time off in August/September, I went to Waco for a bunch of days and I woke up one morning to find the knot almost completely disapated...no logical explaination. I read up on them and discovered that they tend to go away with rest...well I hardly used my camera during those two months and the fluid inside the "balloon" went away. This past couple of weeks since things have gotten busier, it has returned as a very small knot...nice. I got some good info at this site:

I know how horrible these things can be...mine got so big that it made my job painful!!! Not to mention all the typing that I do...think about it...you are a writer!!! You use that wrist constantly and according to things I have read, the more you use that wrist, the bigger the thing will get!!!

When you have surgery, will you get one back in its place? They grow out of joints, so if you have one cut out, does that mean another will pop up in its place? Just wondering.

Thanks for the link on the info. I'll check that out. If they can get all of it, it shouldn't come back, but the doctor did tell me that they return in about 5 to 10 percent of cases. Mine has gotten larger and painful, not to mention hideously ugly.
