A new verb - snopesing
Snopes \snow-ps\ (vb) to snopes, snopesed, snopesing (vi) origins from Internet 1990s; 1. to strike down an urban legend 2. slang - to smack stupid people upside the head when they spread Internet hoaxes
Army of Dad did some snopesing this morning to set his lefty don't-shave-my-legs aunt straight this morning. Aunt Lefty - whom I love dearly and is one of my favorite in-laws in spite of her political views - sent out a mass email to the family about how God is striking down Republicans in Florida by sending hurricanes to strike the counties that voted for Bush in 2000. After I finished laughing hysterically at this, I was getting ready to snopes it when I decided to finish checking my email and my dear hubby had done it for me and added a few key insights to the email before he did a forward to all.
The email goes like this:
Subject: Message from God
Text: Check out this web site! It seems that there is a message from God about November's election, but is anyone listening?
Signed by Aunt Lefty (ok, she signed her name, but this is funnier)

Well that must be true since it is on the internet. http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/hurricane.asp
Or not, since the map does not correctly identify the tracks of the storms anyways. Ivan came ashore in Alabama (they consistently go by where the eye comes ashore).

There are certain reasons I love this man and the sarcasm is really one of them, unless it is directed at me in that implied 'you stupid bitch' tone of voice he gets every once in a while when he is irritated at ME!

I do a LOT of Snopesing...here is a response I wrote a bunch of people today:
"It is amazing to me how idiotic people really are...this has been all over the news and Bush has openly said that there will not be a draft...period. The military does not want to conscript people who do want to serve and who may end up helping the other side since they don't want to be there. As a matter of fact, the bill they talk about was presented by 2 DEMOCRATS!!! Charlie Rangel being one of them...his idea is that there should be a draft because rich white businessmen would be forced to send their kids to the military, which would make them turn on the administration. TWO DEMOCRATS presented the bill in question!!! I am sick of this political season...the left is using a fear mongering campaign to scare young people into voting against Bush.
