Schools and zero tolerance

If it isn't bad enough that I've read where kindergarteners have been sent to alternative campuses for stealing a kiss from a classmate or a junior high girl gets sent to OCS or something like it for giving a friend some Midol when she is cramping, this one takes the cake. In a suburb of Fort Worth a few years ago, an honor student was sent to alternative school when a steak knife was found in the bed of his pick-up after he had been helping his grandmother move over the weekend.

Londonderry, N.H. senior Blake Douglass is a competitive skeet and trap shooter and for his choice of senior photo reflecting his hobbies, he has a picture of him with a gun. He isn't posed like Lee Harvey Oswald or Uma Thurman from Kill Bill or something. He is very tastefully posed as seen below. He was denied use of this picture in the yearbook because it has a gun in it. I could understand if he was posed like some dude from Columbine, but this is obviously a competitive shooter and not some gang-banger showing off his piece.


Give me a break. It just floors me when our education system can't use common sense. Not that I should be surprised.
