One step forward, two steps back
The IOC (International Olympic Committee) did one thing right by thumbing its collective nose at Paris for the 2012 games. Then, they turned around and stepped in a big old steaming pile of poop. And, then did it again.
They're eliminating baseball and softball from the 2012 games. Our softball team kicks ass and the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if someone somewhere wasn't a bit pissy that the US dominates softball EVERY Olympics since it was put in back in 1996. As a young girl who played competitive fast pitch softball growing up, this is one of my favorite Olympic sports to watch. AoD and I don't miss those games.
My first feeling ist hat the Euro-assholes voted these games out because they're largely American-dominated. The Asian also excel and love these games.
Even the reporter covering the story couldn't avoid the implications and had to put it in the story:
Friday's secret vote reflected a heavy European influence of the IOC, which claims a near majority of European members. The popularity of baseball and softball are limited primarily to the Americas, Canada and Asia. Both sports were founded in the U.S.
"I don't want to say it's an anti-U.S. thing, but they are two native American sports," said Don Porter, president of the International Softball Federation.
Porter makes it sort of sound like baseball is a big sport on the reservations, but I do know what he meant and I'm glad he wasn't afraid to say it and be all PC. I am so disappointed in this decision.
On another note, ESPN's website sucks. They DIDN'T have a link I could find this this story this morning. I had to find it on USAToday. Thumbs down to ESPN.

It's ok, they still have the pentathalon and like 6 events in bicycle...those are much better choices than baseball and softball.

Oh yeah. Isn't shuffleboard an olympic sport, too? Oh and don't forget that lame-ass trampoline jumping thing. Oooh *rubbing down the goosebumps* I can't wait to see who is going to dominate that. Or, I almost forgot the rhythmic gymnastics with the long ribbon thing.
*I think I just threw up in my mouth*

Do they even show the games anyway?? I mean maybe it's better not to have it than have an American baseball team that can't even qualify. That's embarrassing.
