Four "colly" birds & a pinball wizard in a pear tree
The holidays always overload my digital cards, but I've finally learned not to get prints of every single frame. So, I'm getting there.
Pickle had a field trip Wednesday going to Chuck E. Cheese and to sing at a retirement home. Fun was had by all.
My son was a pinball wizard at the LOTR pinball. I loved it.
He had a good time. Was funny to see him get shy going to the retirement home, though. He wouldn't get on stage to sing, but instead stood off to the side with one of his teachers and sang from there.
And, then my kid.
After we sang all the songs in the songbooks, the kids handed them out to the residents to keep and then handed out some ornaments for them, too.
And, to this little lady, too.
Pretty sweet. I think these folks enjoyed the kids. They were really funny at times adding in their own little commentaries between songs. Plus, whoever typed up the song lyrics had a few errors that had me laughing during the 12 Days of Christmas. Instead of "calling birds" the lyrics in the books said "colly" birds. So, I was chuckling about that. Then, we had gold instead of golden rings and that made the goofy kids sound even goofiers singing it and the kicker was the guitar accompanist who got faster and faster with the song, so there wasn't even time between verses to take a breath, so we were going triple speed. It was a hoot. The old folks seem to take it in stride and keep up, which was impressive. There was one old guy cracking me up. He was leading the residents and having a grand time. He made it even more fun!

When I was little, "old" people kind of scared me. Something about those places that is rather frightening to a kiddo. Not "old" people tha I knew of course, but strangers!!

I hated going to old folks homes as a kid. My grandparents were all in one at one time or another and I just hated the places. People would grab at me, the stench of urine ... *shuddering* ... but this was a retirement home and not like that at all. The people were nice, so it wasn't bad and I didn't feel bad for him being there.

A friend of mine sent this to me about the colly birds comment. She heard on the radio that colly is actually the correct lyric.
"It’s a term for black birds. It was in the original 12 Days of Christmas song. Apparently we’ve “Americanized” it over the years, and it appears wrong 99% of the time."
Something I did not know.
