SPF: Wave of Modulation
Kristine was inspired by this week by Wave of Modulation and, as such, our assignments are all about that.
SPF Assignment:
1. Something Discarded
2. Lay down on the ground and find something ugly and make it beautiful.
3. Take a picture in the style of the person that inspires you. #3 is wide open - meaning if you took a picture that you wouldn’t have normally taken, but you thought, ‘hey so-in-so would love this’. Share with us your inspirations!!
So, here we go with the first one.
Something discarded consists of the papers in the recycling bin. The newspaper is also a symbol of a discarded media outlet these days; a dinosaur of the past. No longer does everyone get the daily paper. In fact, I know few people under the age of 50 who do. It is a sad state for newspapers and makes me nostalgic for my early reporter days at the Bonham Daily Favorite (my first job after college.)
Getting down to make something ugly into something pretty.
These are some nasty weeds in my backyard that I haven't taken the time to pull or even mow down. But, they look sort of pretty from this angle and not near as offensive from down low.
And, a shot of motivation.
This picture is in honor of my mother. She ALWAYS takes pictures crooked. Every picture. Every time. It is her trademark. I giggle because I think it is a sign of her being just a little off in the head that everything seems at an angle for her. But, I took this shot because I liked the way the boys looked chilling out at halftime of the game last week. But, this one is for my mom. Those who have seen her photo albums can appreciate it.
Did you play? Go see what everyone else did at Random and Odd.

i actually just got mine up early this week too! i haven't posted over at Random & Odd yet though--i'm going to wait till morning i think.
i love your inspriration photo! i think there's something to be said for a photo on an angle. i am often amazed at what tilting the camera just a little bit to one side or the other can do to really change a photo!

Great photos. I tend to tilt the camera a lot too. I'm not sure why - habit I think. Oh, and I get the daily paper and I'm only 23. Plus, my college campus has a newspaper distributing thingy. There are always copies of the daily paper all over campus for students to read, so see some of us young people still read the printed paper.
I played too

Shaun is a camera tilter too! i'm glad you used your mom as your inspiration.
I love the weed shot. My backyard is FULL of them. If you're feeling artistic, come on by!!

Yes, but the papers today are barely worth reading in the first place! AoM will tell you that if I read anything other than the sports page I am usually pissed off by the end of it...which is bad since there are the "editorials"...as if the "stories" that came before them weren't editorials already.

Funny that the tilted shot is getting the most commentary. I don't know why, but I like that shot. My honey and the baby also add to it and these boys are some of my favorites on the team, including the boy in the far background.
And, I'm glad to see the college working to help kids read the paper. I think it is a wonderful tool even if many of the writers and editors today don't live up to the standards of informing the public without bias. I find too much opinion in the news stories I read for my taste, too, but I still believe the newspaper is a great tool. Kudos to you, Torie, for reading.

You friggin rock!! All of your shots are FANTASTIC!!!
Your 'beautiful/ugly' shot?? Awesome.
I giggled when I read your inspired shot write up. My grandma ALWAYS cuts people's heads off. How is that possible? There is a viewfinder!!
Great SPF!
I played at The Ramble Room.

They're all very original! Good job!
I don't have time to read the paper anymore but I used to really enjoy it. We cancelled it about a year ago and I'd say I'm over missing it.
Happy Friday and SPF!
