Feel the force
I went to the sci fi convention with Pickle on Saturday and back again today with LabKat. It was great fun. The boy and LabKat were excited about Darth Maul (Ray Park) and Darth Vader (Dave Prowse) being there to sign autographs. There were various other Star Wars jedis and voice actors there, too. But, it was the power of the dark side that we were all there to see.
Now, me, I was there to see Alan Tudyk (Wash from Serenity/Firefly, Steve the Pirate from Dodgeball and the voice of Sonny in I Robot). I geeked out when I saw him, but that is a long story.
Pickle wanted to dress up like Darth Vader even though I advised him that he would get tired of wearing the costume and I wouldn't carry his helmet or light saber. He eventually gave in and changed. He even acknowledged that he hates it when I'm right.
He was cute, though, especially with the Storm Trooper.
He wound up changing into his I love Anime shirt. Good choice for this event.
There is Baby Leia and a Jedi with a camera (look by Pickle's head). *in my best Jedi mind trick voice: You don't want to erase that picture*
Then we have the little blue Jedi girl and the actress who was the blue jedi .
Pickle's thrills of the day were meeting Darth Vader and Darth Maul. I thought Dave Prowse was pretty spectacular. He got his autograph on the same photo with Boba Fett's, which was cool.
Mr. Prowse was funny, telling Pickle to put his elbow on his shoulder. That photo there in the front is the same shot he had signed. He had Boba Fett sign at the last show.
But, the best was Ray Park - who played Darth Maul in Episode 1 as well as Toad in the X-Men. This guy was so friendly and conversational. By far, the nicest celebrity. Although, I have to say, overall - these sci fi folks are really nice. They know that the fans are there for them and they are very gracious for the most part. He was so dear. We chatted a bit. He even remembered me today when I went back with LabKat.
This was funny. Pickle is such a character.
Ray Park was so sweet. He let me take a picture with him, too.
My highlight - in addition to chatting with Ray Park - was meeting Alan Tudyk. He was raising money for an organization which promotes organ and tissue donation. I was thinking about telling him that I admired that goal since my cousin has benefitted from a kidney transplant. But, no, when I got up there I just fumbled and told him I hated that they killed Wash. Smooth move, Exlax. *shaking my head* I get soooo starstruck. IT is sad.
He was much cuter in person than I thought he would be. Very nice, too. A pic of him signing my Firefly shot. He signed it "Like a leaf on the wind." I liked that.
And, he was really cute up close.
I have more of LabKat and other shots from today that I will post tomorrow. I'm going to bed. I made the kids some pumpkin pie and it is cooling, so time for me to sleep.

Thanks Gadfly for pointing out what a nerd I am. ;) I think I knew that already.

Count us in among the nerds. We're so envious! Mr. Mo immediately recognized Ray without the makeup. We still think that Episode I had the best-ever choreographed lightsabre scene between Darth Maul and Obiwan!

That is great that you recognized him. I'll have to send you a link form the forums at the convention link (or go see) someone has pictures and video of Ray doing a light sabre demonstration. I missed that. I bet it was cool to see.

Hi, my name is Jen. I was just browsing the web and came across your page. I have a website for Ray Park, and I was wanting to kow if I could post your pics from last weekend on my site. I would love it if I could.
I have met Ray at least 6 or 7 times. I lost count. But Ray is an awesome guy. And I have been fortunate enough to have been in contact with him for a few years now and consider it an honor to call him friend. I also do Wushu, which is the style of martial arts that he also does. And he has been keeping me motivated to train by emailing me and having me keep him updated on my progress. And I have had my website for him up since about 2000. And he visits it quite a bit. I just saw him a couple weekends ago in Knoxville, and he told me that he liked what I had done with the site, and I had just updated it with a completely new format just 2 weeks before. So I KNOW he lurks. LOL! So he would more than likely see your pics if you let me put them up! If you'd like to check out my site, then go to http://www.jenshome.com/RayPark.html. And my email addy is jenchuan2008@msn.com. You've got some great pics!!
