I think he is seriously underrated as an actor, but I have also heard that he is on the top of the list of arrogant Hollywood actors. That said...I still watch Better Off Dead with regularity!

So funny I checked in today...I LOVE him. And Better Off Dead is very much a classic...more so than Breakfast Club but doesn't get the recognition.

Was he also in the movie Say Anything? I think he is sexy.

I agree--I will ALWAYS watch a movie he is in, no matter how stupid the other people seem to be--I also love that he always includes Jeremy Piven, childhood friend, in his movies...my faves (besides Better Off Dead--RICKY!!!)
have to be Grosse Pointe Blank and High Infidelity...both really terrific...oh, and Must Love Dogs, and Serendipity...

gadfly think of him along the lines of a Johnny Depp or Sean Penn.

Oooh, Serendipity made my head hurt. It was the first movie he was in that I absolutely hated. I loved Gross Pointe Blank, Better Off Dead (I want my $2!) and High Infidelity. I had to drag my hubs to that one.
And, I love Jeremy Pivens. ;)

I'm with you on this one. He's hot! And he seems like a nice guy too.
Everytime "Serendipity" comes on, I sit down and watch it even though I've seen it about a million times AND we own the DVD.

Hmm, checking in and thought I'd say a word on this one. Got a little inside knowledge and I'll say that Cusack generally is a good guy. Joan, his sis, is good friends with a friend of mine. (she's a sweetheart, by the way)
Now, word is that Jeremy Piven (good bud to the Cusack fam) is a supreme a-hole. Piven, while I like him as an actor, is apparently the one who deserves to be disliked.
Fringe

Oooh, Fringe has the inside scoop. I love both Joan and John Cusack. They are HILARIOUS and talented and some of my faves. I never see a performance of Joan's that I'm not cracking up.
I've come to the conclusion that the old Mac Davis tune from the 70s must be true when you're a celebrity. For those young'uns out there, the chorus is "Oh Lord it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. I can't wait to look in the mirror 'cause I get better lookin' each day. To know me is to love me, I must be a hell of a man. Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, but I'm doin' the best that I can."

gadfly: you're welcome. i know i sounded like an idiot name-dropper but, well, that's what i am i guess...i agree with you a bit about how an a-hole actor clouds your enjoyment of a film (i have trouble with even a decent tom cruise flick)..but really, john c. ain't too bad of a guy, by all accounts.
AoM. Thanks. Joan really is great, by the way. Very regular down-to-Earth woman. You'll see her in Chicago at regular spots - the car wash, a grocery. Always pleasant.
