Red River Shootout
It is a longstanding tradition for Dallas to host the Red River Shootout every year. And, it is a tradition for traffic to suck some of the worst ass ever that weekend. Yesterday, already at the I-35 split in Denton, traffic was backed up heading south into Dallas. It was filled, mostly, with maroon OU flags, but an occasional UT burnt orange was thrown in. But, we are really the main artery for Okies. The socialists in Austin come northward up 35 and into the Dallas side of things, rather than Fort Worth.
I've read stories that before the interstate was built, traffic would clog up and be stop and go through our downtown and the merchants, especially the restaurants, would do a booming business. But, alas, I-35 came into play and now St. Hwy. 377 isn't too highly traveled, just like Route 66 portrayed in Disney's Cars this summer.
vs.
I'll be cheering for the Longhorns. State pride and all.

If it makes you feel better, I live on a rural road just west of I-35 south (which is my only way in and out of town) and I haven't been able to get home without sitting in abnormal amounts of traffic since Thursday afternoon. I'm sure it's fine today, although that means traffic into town will suck tomorrow.
Does it mean that I'm getting old because I can't decide between watching the game or going to Wal-Mart while it's on because I know it will be absolutely empty? Don't answer that, I already know.
I, of course, will be cheering for the other team out of both state pride and the fact that I will soon have a second diploma bearing that team's logo. But it just won't be as fun to watch without Vince Young. I think I've already mentioned my old lady crush on him.
May the best team win!
