This particular toy has been available for several years. I bought one for my daughter at least two Christmas's ago. It had a little alien thing in it that dances and sings on filament wires that you can't see.
I think the photographing of the toy is probably what gave it the unfortunate look it has now. The toy shape is the same one as the one I bought two years ago.
