Army of Mom

So this is how liberty dies ... with thunderous applause.

Put me in, Coach

My timing wasn't great for snapshots last night because I missed the spectacular stretch my son made at first. He was almost in the splits to grab a bad throw and get the out. It was awesome. Worst part was that Army of Dad was talking to some players on the bench and missed it! It was incredible! Of course, his dad played first base in softball as long as I've known him and rocked it out there with his stretches, too. I like this shot because of the ump indicating the out and the right fielder backing up first base. Good stuff right there.
Then Hot Rod's great single to centerfield. This was his first really good hit at kid pitch. He got an RBI on it, too. I felt really bad, though. If you are listening to the video, a friend of mine was telling me about her break-up with her long time beau. It is hard to describe how I met her, but let me try. Her boyfriend of seven years is the father of one of Hot Rod's former teammates. So, I've always called her J's mom, because for all intents and purposes, she is. His mom died when he was 1 or 2 and she met his dad soon after and has been with them ever since. The dad was talking to me in late May asking for suggestions on how to propose to her. We've had them over a few times for dinner and like them both, so I was shocked when she told me about him just ditching her out of nowhere. So, I'm trying to listen and be compassionate (heck, I wanted to cry for her and J, both) and then Hot Rod gets this hit. I think she understood why I was whooping and hollering.

Hot Rod had the sun in his eyes at first base for the first two innings, so finally Army of Dad took his Oakleys and put them on the kiddo. He looked pretty cool, I have to say. His team lost by two runs, but he was very proud of himself and should have been. That was a great hit.

If that was a single, the opposing team must have had a pretty decent centerfielder, because on the video it sure looks like Hot Rod just crushed that pitch.

In the league my boys played in at that age, a dozen years ago, most centerfielders would have peed their pants to see a rope like that coming at them, and it would have likely rolled all the way to the fence.

He hit it pretty good, but right at the center fielder who managed to field it with only a slight bobble and throw it in to second.

Hot Rod was down in the count 2-2 and was choked up so he didn't hit any where near as hard as he can.
